Master of Science (Thesis) (MSc(Thesis))

The Master of Science (Thesis) combines advanced coursework and independent research, giving you the opportunity to explore a subject in greater depth and contribute to new knowledge. You can study across a wide range of science disciplines and shape your programme around your academic interests and goals. Whether you are preparing for doctoral study or pursuing a significant research project, you will work closely with experienced supervisors and become part of Otago’s research community.

Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences). Every applicant must have been awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science majoring in the subject or subjects of study proposed with an average grade of at least B, or have an alternative qualification acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences). An applicant seeking admission to the thesis-only option of the programme (see regulation 2(c) below) must have been awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours or the Postgraduate Diploma in Science, including research report, thesis preparation, or dissertation with an average grade of at least B+.
