Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language

You can teach in Canada and around the world in language schools, elementary schools, high schools and at colleges and universities. Our alumni are, or have been, program administrators, program coordinators, have developed programs and written curriculum. They've worked as consultants and contractors and have pursued masters degrees (in many cases at TRU) and doctoral degrees in TESL at leading universities.

Completion of a bachelor's degree from an English speaking university with a GPA 2.33 or equivalent.
Completion of a bachelor’s degree from a non-English speaking university will require the TOEFL score of 88 (iBT) with no section below 20, IELTS Academic 6.5+ with a minimum score of 6.5 in each area or TRU accepted equivalent.

Deadlines for students of pre-assessment eligible nationalities (Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Iran and Nigeria): Fall: February 15, 2024. Deadlines for students of all other nationalities: Fall: March 1, 2024; Winter 2025: September 1, 2024
