BA (Hons) English and History

Applicants are required to have three A Levels at grades AAB, including English Literature or English Language and Literature. A Level History, Medieval History, or Ancient History is preferred, although applications are welcomed from candidates who can demonstrate a strong interest in and aptitude for the study of history and literature. Acceptable A Level subjects include: Ancient History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Business Studies, Classical Civilisation, Drama and Theatre Studies, Economics, English Language, English Language and Literature, English Literature, Environmental Studies, Geography, Government and Politics, History, History of Art, Law, Medieval History, Modern or Classical Languages, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Religious Studies, and Sociology. Applicants not studying one or more of these subjects are encouraged to contact the institution to discuss their application. If A Level History is not being studied, a minimum of GCSE History grade 7/A and at least one humanities subject at A Level or equivalent is required. Alternatively, candidates may present the International Baccalaureate Diploma with 32 points overall, including 6, 6, 5 in Higher Level subjects and a minimum of 5 in English. For BTEC qualifications, accepted combinations include: BTEC Extended Diploma at DDM plus AB at A Level in the required subjects; BTEC Diploma at DD plus AB at A Level in the required subjects; or BTEC Subsidiary Diploma at D plus AB at A Level in the required subjects. If History is not being studied at A Level, applicants must have grades AB in English Literature or English Literature and Language and a minimum of GCSE History grade 7/A. If History is being studied at A Level, the combination must include AB in English Literature or English Literature and Language and History.
