Modern Languages and English Literature - BA (Hons)

Applicants are expected to meet the following entry requirements: A Levels with grades AAB, including English Literature or English Language and Literature, with a minimum of three A Levels overall. An A Level grade B is required in the advanced language the applicant wishes to study, although it is also possible to study one beginner (including post-GCSE) language without an advanced language requirement. General Studies is accepted. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma requires grades 6,6,5 in Higher Level subjects with 32 points overall, including a Higher Level or equivalent in the modern language to be studied (if taken at advanced level), as well as HL 6 in English Language & Literature or English Literature. BTEC qualifications are accepted as follows: BTEC Extended Diploma at DDM plus BB at A Level in required subjects, BTEC Diploma at DD plus BB at A Level in required subjects, and BTEC Subsidiary Diploma at D plus AB at A Level including the required subjects. Applicants wishing to study advanced French, Spanish, German, Italian, or Russian who are not currently studying the required language at A Level may present an independent language diploma at B2 level, such as DELF-B2 (French), DELE-B2 (Spanish), Goethe-Zertifikat-B2 (German), DILI-B2 (Italian), or TRKI 2nd Certificate (Russian). These diplomas, aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, may be undertaken independently or through a language centre and will be considered in addition to three A Levels or equivalent qualifications.
