English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

English for Academic Purposes is designed to give you the English-language skills and confidence to succeed in an academic setting while also helping you to understand the North American classroom culture of universities and colleges. This program is for students who are at an intermediate to advanced level of English and want to develop their academic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. A placement test will tell you where you would start in our 4-level program; each level is progressively more challenging and puts you on a pathway for universitycollege admission. Each level has two 8-week courses and each course has an Academic Reading & Writing and an Academic Speaking & Listening class. You will receive a certificate and a transcript for each completed 8-week course. If you successfully complete all the courses at the 600 level (EAP600 and EAP650), you will receive the Certificate of English Language (CEL), which meets UBC’s English Language Admissions Standard for undergraduate programs.
