The BA (Hons) Primary Teaching (SEND) (QTS) programme at the University of Chichester is designed to train you to become a fully qualified primary school teacher, focusing on children aged 5-11 (Key Stages 1 and 2). This three-year program emphasises both theoretical and practical aspects of teaching, providing students with the opportunity to teach the full range of subjects within the national curriculum. Undertaking a SEND subject study will also enable students an opportunity to explore key inclusion issues in order to enhance their understanding gained from the broader inclusion elements on the programme. The University of Chichester is an ideal place to train as a teacher, perfectly aligning with the vision of producing educators who are skilled, knowledgeable, and exemplary role models. The university's long-standing reputation for excellence in teacher training, reinforced by 185 years of experience, ensures that students receive a comprehensive and well-rounded education. By nurturing aspirational, inspirational, and motivational teachers, Chichester fosters a teaching environment where students can grow into confident, reflective practitioners. Moreover, the university emphasises the importance of global citizenship and social justice, preparing trainees to understand diverse cultural perspectives and instil these values in their classrooms. This commitment, alongside strong partnerships with schools across the South East, equips aspiring teachers with the practical experience and holistic approach required to inspire future generations. As a result of our approach to teacher education, not only do student teachers engage with vital topics (such as developments in cognitive science or how to adapt teaching for pupils with SEND), they do so with a strong sense of moral purpose and underpinning values. Our success as a provider of teacher education has resulted in the University of Chichester’s strong reputation, earning a range of accolades such as an "Outstanding" rating in our most recent Ofsted and TEF Gold for teaching excellence. Most of all, our graduates feel prepared to enter the teaching profession and make a real difference to the children they teach.
