Graduate Certificate in Conducting

The Certificate in Conducting is a focused, two-year program designed for musicians seeking to strengthen their conducting skills before pursuing a Master of Music, Artist Diploma, doctoral degree, or entry into the professional field. This program provides in-depth training in the art of conducting, with an emphasis on both musical and organizational leadership. You will specialize in one of three areas — orchestral, wind, or choral conducting — and are paired with a dedicated faculty mentor who provides individualized instruction and guidance throughout the program. The curriculum covers the full scope of conducting and music direction — from score study, rehearsal technique, and gesture, to essential leadership responsibilities such as personnel management, audition processes, library coordination, and recruitment. The certificate program offers an ideal bridge for conductors who seek to refine their technique, gain practical experience, and prepare for the next stage of their academic or professional journey. Graduates of the program are well positioned to continue with advanced conducting studies or to take on leadership roles within educational, community, and professional music organizations.
