Secondary PGCE students must have an honours degree and GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or equivalent. A satisfactory medical assessment and DBS enhanced check along with satisfactory references are also requirements for entry. Selection is based on the information provided on the DfE Apply application and on performance at interview. We are looking for applicants with a 2:2 Honours degree or above in English (literature or language), or American/Commonwealth Literature or Linguistics. If you have a 2:2 honours degree in one of these subjects, you will also need a grade B in A-level English or equivalent. The A-level isn’t essential if you have a 2:1 or above. In addition, we will also consider English-related degrees such as Drama, Cultural/Media Studies, Film or Journalism, Classical Civilisation, Classical Studies or Anglo Saxon, Norse & Celtic Studies. For these degrees at any classification, we also require a grade B in A-level English (or equivalent). Combined-honours degrees will also be considered: here we are looking for the English element to be at least 50% of the degree along with a grade B in A-level English (or equivalent). The A-level isn’t essential if you have a 2:1 or above.
