Master of Science in Animal Sciences

The Department of Animal Sciences offers Master of Science (thesis and non-thesis) and Doctor of Philosophy programs. Each program is designed to provide advanced training beyond the baccalaureate degree. Upon completion, our students will be trained to conduct research, teach, and carry out extension activities in animal agriculture across the major animal species: beef, dairy, poultry, swine, and equine. Requirements for the M.S. include a research project with a minimum of 30 credit hours of which six are research credits. Most students complete their master's studies in two and a half years. However, the duration of the program depends on how rapidly progress is made on the project. Each student develops a degree plan that must be approved by their supervisory committee with final approval from the graduate coordinator.
