Medicine (Graduate Entry) - MB ChB

Our A101 graduate entry course (GEP) is a 4-year ‘accelerated programme’. The first year will cover what is typically covered in the first two years of the standard 5 -year A100 programme. The first year of the A101 programme will be taught predominantly separately from the A100 (5-year) programme. Some sessions may be combined if appropriate. Students on the GEP join the clinical rotation pattern of the main A100 programme in their second year (year 3 of A100). To accommodate the accelerated nature of the proposed programme, the GEP programme starts in early August and finishes toward the end of July in the following calendar year. All applicants should note that the academic year is longer than standard, and applicants should note this anticipated start time as no deferral of applications will be allowed.

Achieving our minimum stated requirements in the GAMSAT admissions test is recognised as meeting our minimum English Language and Maths minimum requirements for this programme.

Work Experience Requirements

The A101 selection process will be weighted to prioritise the applications of those with significant work-place experience in a healthcare setting (two years paid employment), and professionally registered healthcare staff with post-qualification experience.

Duty of Care

Applicants to programmes in the School of Medicine should be aware that the professional body governing the practice of medicine (The General Medical Council) has specific requirements relating to the protection of both staff and patients. Students will be required to undertake an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check, undergo an occupational health check and be tested for and/or immunised against a range of infectious diseases prior to patient contact.
