Master of Science in Resource Economics

The MS and PhD in resource economics produce outstanding researchers and industry leaders in three fields of concentration: environmental and natural resource economics, empirical industrial organization, and experimental and behavioral economics. You’ll learn from academic and industry experts in your area of specialization as you become prepared for careers in marketing, energy, renewables, state and federal policy institutions, and economic consulting through the master’s program, as well as research positions in industry, academia, and government through the doctoral program. MSc students complete their program in 17 months. Students typically take three courses per term, for three terms as well as three research credits. After this, students spend an additional month completing a field essay. Students have the option of completing a Thesis, in which case, the program requires an additional semester for completing the thesis. Outstanding Master’s students may be awarded financial aid, which consists of Teaching Assistantship during the academic terms.

Applications consist of an application form, personal statement, transcripts, three reference letters, and a Resume. We offer assistantship funding to admitted PhD students as part of the regular admission process; no further materials are needed to be considered for funding. Applicants do not need to contact faculty before applying. Admissions and funding are administed at the department level rather than under particular research advisors. Students will be matched with a research advisor after finishing initial coursework in the program. Our program does not require the GRE for admissions.
