UMass Lowell’s Manning School of Business is looking for top doctoral students with an intellectual curiosity about the nature and manner in which business organizations work. Graduates are competent in conducting independent research and teaching. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is primarily designed as a full-time program although we may occasionally admit students on a part-time basis. The expectation is that full-time students will finish the program within four or five years depending on the entry semester, while part-time students will complete the program in no more than seven years.With seven concentrationsoptions to choose from, our Ph.D. program has a mission in training graduates who are well-prepared to advance knowledge, educating the next generation of business professionals and contributing to their scholarly communities. The Manning School prides itself in having a high-caliber faculty who publish cutting-edge, industry-relevant research in top academic journals.The Ph.D. concentration in Management Information Systems provides students with a deep understanding of the technical and organizational aspects of information systems and business analytics. The program is designed to prepare students for teaching, research, and professional careers involving the design, analysis, implementation, and use of information systems and data-driven technologies. It trains scholars and professionals to conduct innovative research that cuts across areas such as information systems, data science, computer science, economics, and business functions, in order to address significant technical and managerial challenges related to the advances in information technology. The program offers foundation courses in research methodology, advanced courses in data analytics, electronic commerce, and enterprise systems, as well as research seminar courses on current state-of-the-art topics. The Ph.D. students will undertake research studies to advance the knowledge in the fields of information systems and business analytics.

Entry requirements for University of Massachusetts - Lowell

Statement of Purpose: Outline goals, experience and achievements (max 2 pages)
Letters of Recommendation: Two (2) for master's, three (3) for doctoral applicants.
Transcripts: You may apply with unofficial transcripts, but if accepted, official transcripts are required.
Test Scores: UMass Lowell’s school code is 3911. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is required for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) applicants. It is accepted, but not required, for master's applicants.

International Applicants

Transcripts must show degree completion and include a credential evaluation from a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member, such as:

Center for Educational Documentation (CED)
Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE)
World Education Services (WES)

To qualify for admission into the Ph.D. program, applicants are expected to be graduates of an accredited U.S. college or university or an approved foreign equivalent institution and have earned grade point averages of 3.000 or better in all prior undergraduate and graduate studies.

All applicants must also submit a full Graduate Application, including an official GMAT or GRE score taken within the last five years, official undergraduate and graduate academic transcripts from all previously attended institutions, application form, statement of purpose, application fee, resume, and three letters of recommendation.

If an international transcript does not adequately demonstrate that an applicant has the equivalent of an American bachelor's or master's degree, the applicant must obtain such verification by an independent service such as the Center for Educational Documentation, Boston, MA (617-338-7171). In addition, international students are expected to at least meet the minimum UMass Lowell TOEFL requirements and must submit an official score report.

The faculty admissions committee will review all of the above admissions materials in a portfolio approach.
