Doctor of Philosophy in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

You’ll need about 4 to 5 years to complete our Ph.D. program, or 3 to 4 years if you already have a master’s degree. You’ll take courses, pass written and oral exams, and work on research with faculty advisors, leading up to your dissertation and defense. Requirements: 50 graduate credit classroom hours (can be completed during your MS andor Ph.D.). If you have an approved MS, this drops to 20 classroom hours. Plan for at least one additional year of coursework if you already have a master’s in a related field. At least 1 term of Candidacy Credits (NA 995). 3 math courses (can be completed during your MS andor Ph.D.). Maximum of 4 credit hours of Independent Study included in classroom hours (except Master’s Thesis NA 592, which is fully counted).
