Master of Science in Applied Energy and Electromechanical Systems

The Master of Science in Applied Energy and Electromechanical Systems program is a 30 hour Engineering program that includes a 15 credit hour core and a capstone experience, which may consist of a 6 credit hour graduate research thesis. The program is in an approved STEM field that allows international graduates to apply for OPT extension. Applied Energy studies the areas of energy conversion and conservation, optimal use of resources, analysis and optimization of energy processes, as well as the limitation of environmental pollutants, and the development of sustainable energy systems. The graduate certificate in Applied Energy affords students the opportunity to learn through a hands-on orientation which challenges them to think critically, communicate, and work in teams to solve problems.

An earned undergraduate degree in engineering, engineering technology, energy, or a closely related field An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above Positive recommendations An acceptable TOEFL score is required if the previous degree was from a country where English is not the common language Integral and differential calculus (MATH 1121 or MATH 1241 or ETGR 2171, and ETGR 2272 or MATH 1242 at UNC Charlotte or equivalent from other institutions) Statistics (STAT 1220 or STAT 3128 at UNC Charlotte or equivalent from other institutions) Applicants may optionally submit GRE scores for inclusion in their admission package for the verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections. Other credentials as required by the Graduate School Admission is based on the overall background, motivation, and potential, as determined by the program For non-native English language speakers: official and satisfactory scores on the English language proficiency scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are required. A minimum score of 83 on the Internet-based TOEFL or a minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS is required for admissions consideration.
