Fine Art (top-up) - BA (Hons)

Art has the power to challenge ideas, inspire change and offer new ways of understanding the world around us. Contemporary artists work across diverse media and contexts, combining creativity, research and critical thinking to create work that engages audiences and explores important cultural, social and personal themes. This one-year Fine Art Top-Up programme enables you to build on your existing qualifications while developing an independent artistic practice and a distinctive creative identity. Designed for students progressing from a Foundation Degree, HND or equivalent qualification, the course provides the opportunity to refine your work and prepare for professional creative practice. You'll explore contemporary fine art through a wide range of media, including sculpture, painting, installation, printmaking, drawing, photography, video and digital arts. Working within a vibrant studio community, you'll be encouraged to experiment, take creative risks and develop new approaches that reflect your interests and ambitions. A key feature of the course is the development of a substantial body of independent work supported by research, critical reflection and engagement with contemporary art theory. Through discussions, critiques and professional guidance, you'll strengthen your understanding of how artists create meaning and contribute to wider cultural conversations. Professional development is embedded throughout the course. You'll explore career opportunities within the arts sector, engage with visiting artists and industry professionals, and develop the knowledge needed to promote and sustain your creative practice. The year culminates in a public Degree Show exhibition, giving you the opportunity to showcase your work to audiences beyond the university. By graduation, you'll have developed a professional portfolio, a stronger artistic voice and the confidence to pursue careers across the arts, creative industries or further study.
