Physics with Teaching - BSc (Hons)

The BSc (Hons) Physics with Teaching at the University of Strathclyde combines a strong foundation in physics with professional teacher training, preparing you for a rewarding career as a secondary school physics teacher. You’ll study at an award‑winning institution—the only university to have won the Times Higher Education University of the Year award twice—while developing the knowledge, confidence, and skills to inspire the next generation of scientists.
Throughout the degree, you’ll cover the core physics syllabus alongside education‑focused modules that introduce teaching methods, curriculum design, and classroom practice. This integrated approach ensures you graduate with both a solid understanding of modern physics and the practical skills needed to teach it effectively, clearly, and enthusiastically.
A key strength of the programme is its close integration with Scotland’s largest provider of Initial Teacher Education, giving you access to expert-led training and extensive classroom experience. You’ll gain insight into real school environments, develop reflective teaching skills, and learn how to support diverse learners—essential preparation for life as a professional educator.
The degree is structured to meet the academic and practical requirements for General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) recognition, making you eligible to progress directly to the paid probationary year in teaching on graduation. This clear, supported route into the profession allows you to move confidently from university study into a teaching career.
By combining academic depth in physics with high‑quality teacher education and classroom experience, Physics with Teaching at Strathclyde equips you to make a lasting impact—using your subject expertise to educate, motivate, and shape young minds in schools across Scotland and beyond.
