Doctor of Medical Science - Advanced standing

The Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) and Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) programs are designed for working health science clinicians and educators who hold a master’s or doctorate in a clinical field. Our program offers curricula in research design and implementation and a choice of healthcare leadership or educational leadership tracks. Alumni are poised for careers as leaders in healthcare and education settings.Complete an academic doctorate on your schedule. The DMSc and DHSc programs are taught 100% online in an asynchronous format.The most unique factor of our DMScDHSc program is the interprofessional education design. The program admits students from a wide variety of health professions. Students learn with, from, and about other professions during every phase of their training. This model trains health professionals ready to work across disciplinary and professional boundaries in healthcare and education.The School of Health Sciences offers the DMSc and DHSc to highly qualified applicants seeking career growth in clinical or academic settings.The curriculum is designed for working health science clinicians and educators. The DMSc and DHSc programs are designed with two points of entry into the programOption 1: Traditional 36-unit (4 semester) programOption 2: Advanced standing 27-unit (3 semester) programThe program offers two tracks, Clinical Leadership, and Educational Leadership. All curricula will be delivered online asynchronously with the option to attend live virtual sessions.Students will be evaluated for advanced standing based on their transcripts. The additional trimester courses for the traditional track focus on topics foundational to success in the program. Anyone admitted to this program can take these foundational courses if they lack equivalent coursework for advanced standing or anyone who would like to refresh in these foundational topics.All students will complete a doctoral project suitable for peer-reviewed publication, not a dissertation or thesis. We value the practical skills that students will gain by completing a rigorous doctoral project in collaboration with a faculty advisor with expertise in the topic. The Doctoral Project in our program is modeled after the “thesis by article” concept that values contributions to the field of study in the form of publications.
