M.S. in Applied Mathematics

The structure of our curriculum emphasizes the theory and application of math while giving you access to modern communication tools, modeling, and computation necessary for interdisciplinary problem-solving and research. Supported by close mentorship of our faculty who specialize in applied analysis, numerical analysis, and mathematical statistics, you will be encouraged to ask important questions and find solutions for yourself. This program is a professional mathematics degree designed to prepare students for work in a variety of areas, including business and industry. Program graduates will be proficient in the use of modern analytic and computational tools and will have experience in modeling and solving problems of a practical nature. The Department of Mathematics offers a bachelor of science, bachelor of arts, and master of science in mathematics and applied mathematics. Many of our math students also double major in another discipline.Students who complete the M.S. degree program in applied mathematics will be able to:Apply methods of mathematical modeling and problem solving to a variety of applied topics, including computational and analytical methods;Demonstrate a general knowledge of mathematics beyond the undergraduate level; andCommunicate mathematics effectively in written and oral form.
