The University of Washington’s Department of Communication offers a uniquely integrated and interdisciplinary curriculum grounded in humanistic, qualitative, and quantitative approaches to the study of human communication. At UW Communication, you will employ cutting-edge theories and research methods as you prepare for a career in academia, public service, or industry. You will conduct original research and hone your teaching skills alongside our award-winning faculty in a collaborative and inclusive scholarly environment. Our dynamic student community fosters bonds that will support you throughout your career. The University of Washington’s Department of Communication MAPhD and PhD program offers students a diverse and integrated curriculum built on a broad theoretical and methodological foundation. From that foundation, students develop a program of study under the guidance of faculty mentors. A majority of our students also enroll in graduate courses outside of the department to develop additional expertise related to their research goals. Our curriculum also includes a series of professional development seminars focused on pedagogy, writing for publication, and public scholarship; generous financial support for conference travel; a variety of research grants; and opportunities to collaborate with faculty.
