Master of Fine Arts in Design

We train professional scenic, costume, and lighting designers. Our graduates are working at the highest levels of the field, designing for theatre, dance, film, opera, and television.

Through a rigorous and highly-personalized course of study, our designers develop the skills they need to effectively communicateboth socially and visuallywith their collaborators and with their audiences. Our goal is to train conscious, collaborative artists of the highest caliber who can meet complex artistic challenges with integrity, excellence, and ingenuity. Our faculty and alumni work in every corner of the industry.

The program generally accepts two students in each area (scenic design, costume design, and lighting design). It is extremely difficult to gain admission directly out of a BA/BFA program with no other credentials.

English Proficiency:

TOEFL iBT - Minimum Required Score (ELP Required): 80; Recommended Score (ELP Satisfied): 92 or higher

TOEFL pBT - Minimum Required Score (ELP Required): 500; Recommended Score (ELP Satisfied): 580 or higher

IELTS - Minimum Required Score (ELP Required): 6.5; Recommended Score (ELP Satisfied): 7.0 or higher
