M.S in Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis Online

Virtually every modern industry relies on location intelligence to make critical decisions. The online M.S. in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Spatial Analysis from the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences provides a graduate education that bridges geospatial technology with analytical reasoning and connects the natural sciences with urban applications. Students develop proficiency across the core domains of the field, including remote sensing, spatial statistics, predictive modeling, and open-source programming. The curriculum emphasizes the practical application of these methods to real geographic problems, with attention to data quality, error assessment, and the appropriate selection of analytical techniques for different spatial contexts. The program treats GIS as more than just mapping—it is a framework for complex problem solving that integrates both qualitative and quantitative analysis to support decision-making in environmental science, public health, and urban planning. The program is delivered online and organized around project-based assignments that require students to work with authentic datasets, troubleshoot processing errors, and defend their methodological choices through written documentation.

You must have a bachelor's degree from a properly recognized institution. The minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) is 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. Some programs have higher minimum GPA requirements. To be eligible for the Engineering graduate program, applicants must submit a statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation, and GRE scores.
