Located in the city of Kalamazoo in southern Michigan, Western Michigan University (WMU) offers a comprehensive suite of more than 250 study programs to both undergraduate and graduate-level learners. It ranks in the top 160 public schools in the country (US News & World Report, 2025).
Career-focused degree programs propel students directly into meaningful careers. In 2024, 93 percent of WMU students participated in Experience-Driven Learning at the University, with 9 out of 10 graduates reporting quick employment in jobs that they like. Ninety-five percent of graduates are working full time in a job related to their degree (WMU Career Outcomes Report, 2024).
Degree programs at WMU cover an expanse of subject areas and interdisciplinary study is encouraged. Participation in research projects is available at all levels of study and is not only limited to graduate students. All learners receive guidance in choosing their majors, minors, and elective courses and are fully supported by faculty across all areas of study.
Students at WMU are familiarly known as "Broncos" and are part of a diverse and vibrant university community. There are almost 400 student organizations to get involved in, Division 1 athletics and multiple club sports and extra-curricular activities and facilities to enjoy, including a student recreation center.

The admissions requirements for WMU vary between individual courses and depend on the individual subject as well as the level of study. At the undergraduate level, applicants must have at least a minimum GPA of 2.5. Some programs in the Aviation and Fine Arts colleges have additional requirements.
For graduate programs, the minimum GPA is a 3.0. Each graduate program maintains their own requirements for GPA, test scores, and other factors. Students are encouraged to review the specifics of their preferred program prior to submitting an application.
