WNE prepares its students to do more, achieve more, and reach their full potential.Western New England University has a rich history dating back to 1919, when it was founded in Springfield, Massachusetts, as the Springfield Division of Northeastern College, then known as Springfield-Northeastern. The institution was established to provide part-time educational opportunities for adult students pursuing studies in law, business, and accounting.In 1951, the school became an independent institution and was granted the authority to confer degrees in Business Administration and Law. At that time, it adopted the name Western New England College. In 1956, the college relocated to its current campus on Wilbraham Road.On July 1, 2011, Western New England College officially became Western New England University. The name change reflected the institutions growth, increasing diversity, expanded graduate programs, and evolution into a comprehensive university. The universitys main campus has grown from its original 34 acres to 215 acres and now includes 28 major buildings, along with numerous athletic and recreational fields.
