Students must meet the academic entry requirements for their chosen program according to their high school curriculum. The university offers a range of flexible entry pathways, but requirements vary between programs. As such, students are advised to check the course pages on York University's website to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria for admission. International students are also advised to see which qualifications are accepted from their home country.
For international students for whom English is not a first language, the results of an approved English language test are usually required in order to evidence language proficiency. A range of tests are accepted by the university.
At undergraduate level, the standard requirement for most programs is an overall IELTS score of 6.5 (or an equivalent English language test score). For graduate programs, the requirement may vary.

Collaborative learning spaces have been designed with the future in mind, allowing for the seamless integration of evolving technologies across teaching. There are over 350 student-run clubs and societies available at York University, providing opportunities to socialize and become part of the community while engaging with an interest or skill. Varsity athletics teams exist for nine different sports, with over 450 different athletic teams.
York University boasts a full range of sporting facilities including stadiums, an ice rink, a track and field center, swimming pools, fitness studios, gyms and more.
Accommodation is available across 10 on-campus residences, close to classes, amenities and campus supports. Students can choose from a variety of residence styles, all with single- and double-room options, and opportunities for dining plans, kitchenettes and more.
