In May 2025, IDP launched its Fly Higher Award, in partnership with Flywire, a global payment platform that helps students make international payments safely and easily.
From May to July 2025, international students who paid their tuition through IDP’s Flywire link and submitted their applications had the chance to win USD$3,000.
One of the lucky winners was Binh Dang (Brian), an international student currently studying in Australia.
We caught up with Brian to hear about his experience studying abroad, his thoughts on Flywire, and how the award is helping him focus on his education.
Be inspired, and get some tips for your international education journey.
Get to know Brian
Brian is an international student taking up a Master of Finance and a Master of Commerce at Macquarie University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting in Vietnam.
When asked what inspired him to study in Australia, Brian shared,

How IDP supported his journey
For Brian, IDP has been a trusted partner from day one.
“Every single step — from university application to visa — has been smoothly done with IDP. My long journey has been supported by IDP agents in Vietnam, especially Ms Dương Bùi and Ms Trinh Nguyễn from IDP Hanoi. Thanks to them, I’m now here in Australia.”
While moving abroad can feel overwhelming, Brian said that having IDP’s guidance made the entire process smoother.
Challenges as an international student
Like many international students, he also struggled with language barriers and meeting financial needs while studying in Australia.
“First, the language barrier. Communicating with people and listening to lectures are all done in English, but it’s not my mother tongue. I also had to balance working and studying. I think almost everyone does a part-time job here to ease the burden of financial issues.”
His experience with Flywire
Fast and convenient, with favourable currency rates.
This is how Brian describes his experience of paying his tuition fees through Flywire and IDP.
“I have contacted IDP for their tuition payment service for international students. From my experience, Flywire is really fast and convenient. It also provides us, international students, with favourable currency rates. It’s really promising.”
“When I saw the currency rate, I just wanted to pay my tuition right away.”
He also walked us through the process of paying his tuition fees with IDP and Flywire, ensuring that it was fast and safe.
How the USD$3,000 Award helps
True to Flywire and IDP’s goal of aiding the financial needs of students, Brian says the award would be a great help for him in meeting his financial responsibilities.
“As I mentioned before, as an international student, we had to balance working and studying. These funds will ease my burden a lot. I can just stay focused on studying, spending more time with my friends, exploring this beautiful city, and maybe even buying the new iPhone.”
His proudest moment as an international student so far
While the journey of becoming an international student comes with challenges, it also comes with many proud moments. We asked Brian about his. And you might relate to him when he said he’s proud of how far he had come, of the people he met, and the new places he’s been through.
“I’m proud of myself because I have come this far. When I came to Sydney, I had plenty of opportunities to make friends with international students from countries like China, Nepal, and Thailand. I also had the chance to go to beautiful cities like Melbourne and Brisbane. In the future, I just want to achieve my Master’s degree to support my career path.”
Advice to fellow international students
You might agree that studying abroad is often for the big dreamers, for students with the right amount of bravery and determination.
And this is exactly what Brian wanted to impart to fellow international students: have no fear, get out of your comfort zone, and ask for the right guidance.
"Do not fear anything. If you need support or if you’re struggling with anything, like visa or IELTS, just contact IDP. Besides that, Australia is a promising place where you can enhance your skills and become independent. And, do not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone.”
