Academic admission requirements
Undergraduate
High school degree with strong grades in maths, sciences (Biology, Chemistry), and Grade 12 English.
This typically means a minimum of 75% but should be higher to be competitive. That recommended minimum grade requirement depends on the school and program, so always refer to the admissions page for the right information.
Postgraduate
Undergraduate degree.
Entry to practice degrees will require an undergraduate degree in any field, while advanced degrees will require an undergraduate degree specifically in nursing as well as relevant work experience (1-2 years). This will vary depending on the program and school. Check the eligibility requirements for your degree for more information.
English test requirements
IELTS: Minimum 7.0 overall with no score under 6.0 or 7.0 (depends on program and school).
PTE: Overall score of minimum 66
TOEFL: Overall score of around 94
Admission tests
Bachelor’s degree: Typically no admission test or entry nursing exam in Australia, but you may need to complete the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) depending on the school and your academic prerequisites. See your program page for more information.

How to Apply for Nursing Programs in Australia (Step-by-Step)
1. Select your schools and programs
Using your academic history and your career goals, select the best nursing program for you based on their specialization, placement opportunities, and your special interests. For example, you may choose one program due to their course offerings and opportunities to practice within Aboriginal Health. Different criteria for your shortlist may also include international scholarship opportunities, costs, international student numbers and support, and location.
2. Gather important documentation
The documentation required for your nursing program will differ depending on your degree level, the school, and your pathway of entry (entry to practice vs advanced for postgraduate). However, some common documents you should include are:
Transcripts. Include a printout or digital copy of your grade history and courses completed. Ensure you meet minimum requirements based on your degree level and course.
Letters of recommendation. These help provide qualified evidence of your academic strengths, your accomplishments, and your soft skills. You may consider past teachers or, if you are applying to an advanced postgraduate entry degree, past supervisors, or coworkers. Request these at least 1-2 months in advance.
English test results. This provides proof of your English language proficiency to ensure you meet the minimum requirements for study and practice once you graduate. The exact scores necessary in each section may differ from school to school, so be sure to check this before you submit your application.
Personal statement. Provide context and quantify your accomplishments in this personal statement that lets you describe your career goals and the impact you’d like to have in the field. Explain how your experience and who you are makes you a great fit for the program.
CV or resume. As an applicant to the postgraduate advanced entry nursing degrees, you will be required to show proof of 1-2 years of work experience. Your CV should highlight your accomplishments that reflect both your strengths as a nurse and your career goals that fit in with the program you’re applying for.

Role of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) is responsible for the regulation, registration, and compliance of nurses and midwives, and sets policies and standards for practice. They also:
