In making the recommendations, the selection committee gives equal consideration to:
a. Achievements of applicants in original composition and
b. the purpose and suitability of the overseas travel proposal.
If, in any year, there are fewer candidates of sufficient merit than there are awards available, fewer awards are made.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students or former students of the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts to further their study by visiting other countries.
Tenure: Varies, but shall not normally exceed two years
Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, to a value of up to NZ $10,000. The value and tenure of the scholarship shall be determined by the Council of the University of Canterbury on a case-by-case basis
