In making the recommendation, the selection committee gives equal consideration to: a. potential to succeed at postgraduate study b. demonstrated commitment to, or interest in, Civil Engineering, in particular, steel structures engineering c. potential to contribute to research in Structural Steel Engineering and increase value to the New Zealand fabricated structural steel industry d. financial need and e. academic achievement.
If, in any year, there is no candidate of sufficient merit, no scholarship is offered
This scholarship supports research master's students in Civil Engineering at University of Canterbury.

b. Provided suitable positions are available, Silvester/Clark Consulting Engineers and Steel Construction New Zealand may offer the recipient a paid internship during tenure of the scholarship and an opportunity for employment following completion of the ME programme.
Tenure: One year
Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: A programme, including ENEQ 650, for an ME degree in Civil Engineering.
