In making the recommendation, the selection committee gives equal consideration to: a. Past academic achievements and b. Character as evidenced by a reference provided by the applicant and c. Research potential as evidenced by the student's thesis research proposal and academic and professional experience in research.
If, in any year, there is no candidate of sufficient merit, no scholarship is offered.
The Selection Committee may recommend the awarding of more than one scholarship in any year after consultation with the Executive of the SFPE NZ Chapter.
The New Zealand Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers established the Scholarship in 2007. The purpose is to support a student enrolled in the Master of Engineering in Fire Engineering programme at the University of Canterbury, to undertake fundamental research into fire safety and fire science.
Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Applicable to a full-time student enrolled in a Master of Engineering in Fire Engineering.
Tenure: One year
