In making the recommendation, the Head of the Department of Global, Cultural and Language Studies (or nominee) considers, in descending order of priority: a. contribution to society and other people, including potential future contributions b. leadership qualities c. interest in Japanese culture and ability in Japanese d. academic record and diligence and e. proposed schedule of visits in Japan. Preference is given to students studying Japanese language at 300 level who have not visited Japan.
If, in any year, there is no candidate of sufficient merit no award is made.
The purpose of this scholarship is to enable the student to further advance his or her study of and acquaintance with the culture and people of Japan.
