Dr Donald Malcolm MacArthur Scholarship

The award is open to students applying for courses within the Faculty of Science who are domiciled in the Western Isles, with preference given to those who have attended the Nicolson Institute on the Isle of Lewis.

The scholarship forms part of the Wardlaw Scholarship scheme, established in 2004 to provide financial assistance to academically gifted students who would otherwise struggle with the cost of studying at the University of St Andrews.

Students should be domiciled in the Western Isles (Lewis & Harris, Barra, Uist). There is a preference for students who have attended the Nicolson Institute on the Isle of Lewis.

Selection is based on financial need and donor-specific criteria.

Please note that as the Wardlaw scholarships are donor-funded, core personal details may be passed to the benefactors of your scholarship with your permission. This permission is requested in the application form. If you select that you do not wish to be considered for donor funding, you will only be considered for the St Andrews Access Award.

If you are care experienced and unable to provide household evidence, please upload a document that states this. You do not need to upload evidence of your care experience, if this has already been provided to Admissions.

If you are an asylum seeker and are unable to provide household evidence, please upload evidence confirming your official Home Office status.

You must apply to the University for funding, giving complete and accurate information before the deadline. Late applications will not be considered.
