The Department's Studentship Selection Committee meets after the submission deadline to allocate the awards. The awards are allocated purely on the basis of academic merit, taking into account the quality of the research proposal, past academic transcripts, and references.
The studentships cover the four-year period of the integrated PhD programme. However, years 2-4 of the studentship will be conditional on successful completion of the 1st year.
The studentship covers home fees (£5,006 for 2025/26) and provide an annual stipend based on the UKRI stipend rate (£20,780 for 2025/26). The studentship is open to all, but International and EU students will be expected to cover the difference between the home and overseas fee rate.
Open to EU, International (non-EU) and UK (home) students.
Open to students in the Department of Economics and Related Studies.
Only students registered on the Integrated PhD in Economics, who have at least one supervisor based within the Department of Economics and Related Studies, are eligible to be considered for a Studentship. The Centre for Health Economics is considered a separate department in this context, and students registered on the PhD in Health Economics are not eligible for consideration.
