Academic

All students must meet the academic entry requirements for their chosen study programme. Requirements vary between programmes. International applicants are required to hold qualifications equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate.

Applications are assessed based on academic qualifications and programme-specific requirements.

Students are able to check which qualifications are eligible from their home country.

English language

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency through recognised tests such as IELTS, TOEFL or Pearson PTE.

For many courses, a standard requirement is an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no band score below 6.0, or an equivalent test score.

However, a number of courses do have higher English language requirements, and as such, students are advised to check they can meet the eligibility criteria prior to application.

UCC offers a comprehensive and student-centred support system designed to ensure that students feel confident, supported, and connected throughout their university experience. Every single student enjoys access to a wide range of services, including academic skills support, counselling, health services, and career guidance, supporting both academic success and personal wellbeing.

International students are supported by the International Office from pre-arrival through to graduation. The experienced team is able to offer advice and guidance across a comprehensive range of areas specific to international students, including visas, accommodation, and settling into life in Ireland.

Orientation and the UCC Welcome Programme provide valuable opportunities to explore campus, connect with other students, and engage with Irish culture. More than 100 clubs and societies run throughout the year, enabling students to get involved in groups that cater to their interests.

International students from outside of the EU must typically pay the international tuition fee for their study programme. However, EU students are charged tuition fees at the domestic (home) rate.

UCC offers a wide range of scholarships and funding opportunities for students, including merit-based awards, programme-specific funding, and awards granted based on country of origin. Opportunities vary depending on programme and level of study. There are many scholarships which are specifically available to international students.

Many scholarships are automatically assessed as part of the application process, while others require a separate application.

The majority of scholarships are made available through the university's four colleges. Students may also be eligible for a bursary if they encounter unexpected financial hardship during their studies. External funding opportunities are also available.
