Bachelor of Arts in Language and Area Studies - German/Europe

Speaking a second language and possessing cultural competency is more valuable now than ever. This program is designed for students who have an interest in studying Europe and learning or improving their German. It strikes a balance between humanities and social sciences courses, combined with an advanced level of foreign language study. Students can study abroad with AU's Berlin program. WLC is committed to creating a dynamic intellectual community of faculty and students dedicated to the study of language and culture, literature, linguistics, teaching, and translation.

We foster a learning environment that encourages the acquisition of language in tandem with the development of social and cultural awareness. Students have the opportunity to work with diverse and multilingual faculty who are experts in critical language pedagogy, linguistics, translation, and literature, as well as a wide range of theoretical and critical approaches as they relate to studies of culture, colonialism, race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, migration, and human rights, among other areas.

Applicants must have successful graduation of year 12 and completion of college preparatory curriculum with a Grade Point Average of 3.0

AU requires strong English language skills. All freshmen applicants (including U.S. citizens and U.S. Permanent Residents) can prove English proficiency by one of the following:

Internet based test (iBT) score of 85 or higher. Sub-scores for each section of the TOEFL must be 20 or higher. To be considered competitive, a 90 TOEFL iBT score or above is recommended, with each sub-score 20 or above.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Composite score of 6.5 or higher. Sub-scores for each section of the IELTS must be 6.0 or higher

Duolingo English Test score of 115 or higher. Each sub-score must be 105 or higher.

Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 60 or higher
