Design and shape the world around you, while also learning about the people, places, programs, and purposes of buildings and human environments. You will become an innovative problem solver and build skills in a broad spectrum of visual communication tools and methods, design technologies, and design information management.
In architecture, you’ll turn sketches into structural models, balancing aesthetics, structure, and economics. Studio courses offer hands-on, project-focused learning, while lectures cover key design topics. With internships and industry connections, this learn-by-doing approach prepares you to become a creative thinker ready to impact the built environment.
Cal Poly Pomona's Bachelor of Architecture is offered in a five-year curriculum, which focuses on the design laboratory. The studio sequence consists of four segments: a three-year basic core, three-semester topic studios, and a two-semester long culminating senior project. Lecture classes in Architecture Theory and History, Human Behavior, Professional Practice, Programming, Sustainability, Building Technology, Structures, Codes and Digital Media are closely coordinated with the studio sequence, and students are expected to demonstrate their knowledge of these areas in their design projects.
