The Master of Science (M.S.) in Chemical Engineering at Howard's Graduate School is designed for students interested in studying biochemical, environmental, and materials process engineering, among other related fields. Our program will prepare you, like many of our graduate alums, for a career in research, government, and industry, including in biotechnology, pharmaceutics, consumer products, manufacturing, and renewable energy. Other graduates go on to pursue further study at the doctoral level. You'll gain a solid foundation in the fundamental concepts of chemical engineering (thermodynamics, material and energy balances, and kinetics) and practical training in theoretical, computational, and experimental techniques, including fluid mechanics, process simulation, genetic analysis, biomolecule synthesis, and optimization. The program's core areas of strength include energy and design for sustainability, nanotechnology, biomolecular engineering, environmental engineering, chemical reaction engineering, transport phenomena, process control and design, and applied mathematics for chemical engineers. You'll enjoy the close mentorship of faculty who are experts in wide-ranging fields, including hazardous waste remediation, biopolymers, bioengineering, fluid and thermal sciences, environmental engineering, dynamics of reacting systems, nanotechnology, and computational science. You'll also enjoy a highly collegial atmosphere and opportunities to collaborate with faculty on research funded by private and public sector agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and ExxonMobil.
