The psychology major at Los Medanos College will provide students with an introduction to the field of psychology. This major will focus on behavior and its contributions to understanding social evolution, interpersonal relationships, and healthy and disordered functioning. Students will be exposed to psychology as the scientific study of thought, feeling, and behavior and as a helping profession dedicated to solving human problems. Psychology includes a variety of subfields, including clinical, counseling, developmental, forensic, social, cognitive, biological, industrial, health, educational, and school psychology. Most career options require more than two years of college study. The Associate in Arts Degree in Psychology for Transfer provides preparation for transfer to psychology programs at four-year institutions. Transferring and completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology can lead to careers as psychotherapists, college professors, scientific researchers, administrations, and business consultants.
