Master of Science in Nursing - Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

The Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) program prepares students to comprehensively assess, diagnose, and treat complex acute, critical and chronic health conditions in young adults, adults, and older adult populations. Our program places an emphasis on evidence-based patient centered care, focusing on prevention of illness, quality assurance, in addition to seamless care coordination. Students will complete 600 direct care supervised clinical practicum hours in a variety of acute care inpatient settings and specialties. The University holds contracts with all major health care systems in the tri-county area and beyond. Upon graduation, students are prepared to become certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Commission (ANCC) or the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and to obtain Nurse Practitioner specialty certification by the State of Michigan. Our students' success rate on certification exams is well above the national average.Well-established education of nurse practitioners as noted by: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) programs (MSN and Post-MSN certificate) developed in 2007; ACNP with advanced Hospice and Palliative Care Specialty (ACNPHPCS) program added in 2008; a transition to the Adult-Gerontology specialty implemented in 2013, with the first graduates of these new specialties in May 2014.
