BSc (Hons) Computer Science

On our BSc (Hons) Computer Science degree, you’ll get an in-depth understanding of both the theory and technical aspects of computing, with an emphasis on programming, algorithms, data structures, and computer architecture. We’ve designed the course content to meet the needs of industry, so you can be confident the skills you’re learning are the skills that employers look for. You’ll begin by studying programming, computing mathematics, web development, computer architectures and databases as you cover the fundamentals of computing, developing your team working and communication skills as you go. Then, as you progress, you’ll tackle more specialised areas, like algorithms, data structures, networks, operating systems and the processes used to develop software in industry. By your final year you’ll be ready to take on advanced topics like artificial intelligence and the study of different programming language paradigms. Carrying out a large-scale project will give you the chance to hone the skills you’ve learned and put them into practice. Our BSc (Hons) Computer Science and BSc (Hons) Software Engineering degrees share a common first year, allowing you to switch between these courses at the end of your first year.

GCE A levels - grades BBB, and to include minimum grade B in one of the following subjects: IT, Computer Science, Mathematics, CCEA Digital Technology, Software Systems Development or a science subject.Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma or OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - grade DDD in IT or Computing. Applicants with a qualification in Applied Science or Engineering will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Esports and Creative Digital Media Production are NOT accepted. AAQ Extended Certificate grade D in Computing and IT are accepted as meeting the subject requirement. Other subjects will be considered alongside qualifications which meet the subject requirementAccess to HE Diploma - Pass overall in Computing, IT or Science with a minimum 122 UCAS Tariff pointsT level - Overall grade Merit in Digital Production, Design and Development, Digital Business Services, Digital Support Services, Digital Business Services, Digital Data Analytics, Digital Software Development and Digital Support and Security.IB Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum overall score of 30 or minimum 120 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects, including HL5 in at least one of IT, Computing. Mathematics or a science subject.Other Level 3 qualifications equivalent to GCE A level are also considered. The equivalent of A level grade B in a relevant subject will be required as part of any offer.Level 2 qualifications GCSE grade C/4 in English Language or equivalent, e.g. Pass in Level 2 Functional Skills English and GCSE grade C/4 in Mathematics or equivalent, e.g. Pass in Level 2 Functional Skills Mathematics.
