Associate of Fine Arts in Jewelry and Metals

This pathway meets requirements for the Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree with a concentration in Jewelry and Metals and a Certificate of Jewelry Design (CJD). To complete both, see below to finish the degree AND certificate in 90 credits. Completion of this CJD to AFA pathway is designed to give you a strong portfolio in jewelry design as well as successfully prepare you for further education in the visual arts such as a Bachelor of Art (BA) with Studio Art or Art History emphasis, a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) or Master of Fine Art (MFA) in Visual Art, andor entering the creative economy with a dynamic portfolio. Completion of this pathway meets requirements for both the certificate and degree. North Seattle College has one of the most well-equipped studios in the Pacific Northwest region. Students in this pathway develop technical skills including fabrication, stone setting, and small-scale metal casting and mold making, as well as creative skills in the field of jewelry, for both fine art expression and commercial application. Students will also demonstrate collaborative attitude, skills, and knowledge, and will learn how to properly set up a studio and to find work in a variety of careers related to jewelry design.

Students who will still be underage (16 or 17) by the start of classes must provide original and English-translated copies of their high school transcripts or a copy of their high school diploma. U.S. high school graduation with GPA of at least 2.0. Completion of both primary and secondary education in Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Canada (English-speaking provinces), Ghana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. Completion of English Composition at an accredited post-secondary institution in Australia, Bahamas, Belize, Botswana, Canada (English-speaking provinces), Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. Completion of SCIE's College Bridge Level 5. SAT - 510 in Reading and Writing. ACT - 19 for both English and Reading. AP - English Language & Composition with a score of 3 or higher. AP - English Literature & Composition with a score of 3 or higher. IB - English Literature A with a score of 4 or higher (HL). IB - English A Language & Literature with a score of 4 or higher (HL).
