Gain a working knowledge of fundamental shop skills, tires and rims, track and under-carriage systems, braking systems, hydraulics, welding, powertrains, engines and engine systems, and electrical and electronic systems used in off-highway heavy duty equipment vehicles and stationary equipment. You graduate with the skills to work on equipment such as graders, loaders, shovels, tractors, trucks, agricultural equipment, bulldozers, earth movers, mining trucks, cranes, forklifts, drills, and wheeled off-highway and tracked vehicles used in construction, mining, forestry and other industries.
Career options
As a graduate of this program, you may be employed wherever heavy duty or agricultural equipment is sold, serviced or repaired. This includes equipment dealers, garages, railways, provincial and municipal departments, and forestry, mining and construction companies.

Future study options
Once employed, graduates may register as an apprentice with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA) in the Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Agricultural Equipment Technician trades. Apprenticeship is an optional but beneficial journey that combines on-the-job learning with technical training.
Red Seal Endorsement - individuals who complete an apprenticeship program are eligible to write the inter-provincial exam. A Red Seal is a valued certification that allows tradespeople to practice the trade in any province or territory in Canada where the trade is designated.
