The General Construction Emphasis at Pittsburg State University prepares students for careers in the construction industry by combining technical knowledge, construction methods, project management, estimating, safety, and hands-on industry practices. Students develop skills in construction graphics, residential and commercial construction, HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, structural principles, sitework, steel, concrete and masonry construction, materials testing, surveying, and civil construction. Students gain practical experience through laboratory-based coursework, computer applications, construction design projects, and a required construction internship or cooperative education experience.
