The Doctor of Nursing Practice with an Educational Leadership emphasis prepares nursing professionals for advanced leadership and educational roles through coursework in nursing education, organizational leadership, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, patient safety, research, and health care delivery. The program examines organizational, leadership, and nursing theories related to advanced nursing practice and the DNP role, along with current and future issues and trends in organizational leadership. Students develop knowledge of health determinants, epidemiology, evidence-based nursing practice, quality and safety improvements, and practice outcomes. The program also develops skills in practice scholarship, including planning and designing practice-focused research projects, developing research proposals, analyzing data, and publishing and presenting research findings. Students complete a DNP Scholarly Project that focuses on identifying and examining a practice-focused problem, conducting an integrated review of literature, designing an appropriate project or intervention, gathering and analyzing data, evaluating results, and disseminating project findings. The Educational Leadership emphasis allows students to select 9 hours from courses such as Advanced Educational Psychology, Grant Writing and External Resources, Mentoring Principles for Professionals, Instructional Methods in Career and Technical Education, Needs Assessment, Curriculum Development in Career and Technical Education, and Student Assessment Development in Career and Technical Education. Students also complete a 3-hour College Teaching Internship, providing teaching experience in a community college or university.
