The Doctor of Nursing Practice with an Organizational Leadership emphasis prepares advanced nursing professionals for leadership roles focused on healthcare delivery, organizational effectiveness, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and patient safety. The program examines organizational, leadership, and nursing theories related to healthcare delivery, advanced nursing practice, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice role, while addressing current and future issues and trends in organizational leadership. Students study health determinants, epidemiology, evidence-based nursing practice, quality and safety improvements, change management, and practice outcomes. The program also develops skills in practice scholarship, including planning and designing practice-focused research projects, developing research proposals, applying analytical techniques, and publishing and presenting research findings. Students complete a DNP Scholarly Project that requires identifying a practice-focused problem, conducting a comprehensive review of the literature, designing an appropriate project or intervention, gathering and analyzing data, evaluating results, and disseminating findings to a targeted audience. The Organizational Leadership emphasis includes Evidence Based Leadership Coaching and allows students to select additional coursework in areas such as Organizational Development and Change, Mentoring Principles for Professionals, Adaptive Leadership, and Needs Assessment. These courses provide knowledge and practical skills in leadership development, organizational change, mentoring, adaptive leadership practices, strategic interventions, systems and organizational effectiveness, needs assessment, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
