Masters by Research

Candidates for the Degree of Master (Research) will be expected to meet the standard for the relevant broad field of learning (Science, Computing, Engineering, Business, Art and Design. Candidates for the Degree of Master (Research) will be expected to meet the standard for the relevant broad field of learning (Science, Computing, Engineering, Business, Art and Design defined for awards at Level 9 on the NFQ. Learning outcomes at this level relate to the demonstration of knowledge and understanding which is the forefront of a field of learning. The outcomes relate to the application of knowledge, understanding and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar contexts related to the field of study. The outcomes are associated with an ability to integrate knowledge, handle complexity and formulate judgements. Outcomes associated with Level 9 would link with employment as a senior professional or manager with responsibility for the work outputs of teams. Normally, the minimum duration of studies leading to the Degree of Master (Research) is 21 months (two academic years) from the date of admission to the Master's Register.n defined for awards at Level 9 on the NFQ. You will normally have an honours Bachelor Degree (with a recommended minimum level 2nd Class, Division 1) in a field of study directly related to the subject matter of the Masters Degree.

A candidate holding qualifications different from that specified above may be admitted to a Master Degree programme subject to satisfactory performance in an examination, test or other requirement agreed by the Academic Council on the advice of the Research & Development Committee and a nominated external examiner.
