Prepare for a career in remote sensing and environmental mapping by enrolling in the UK’s leading master’s programme in this field. You’ll explore advanced techniques for using remote sensing—from ground-based to spaceborne platforms—to gather critical environmental data on the terrestrial biosphere, atmosphere, oceans, and cryosphere. This course offers exceptional preparation for careers in industry, academia, or government. The MSc Remote Sensing and Environmental Mapping provides an in-depth understanding of how satellite, airborne (including drones) and ground-based remote sensing technologies are used to observe, analyse, and model environmental processes at local, regional and global scales. Combining core scientific principles with training in the latest tools and techniques, the course equips students with advanced skills in data analysis, environmental mapping, and geospatial programming. With a strong emphasis on practical application, students gain experience working with real-world datasets and develop the confidence to address complex environmental problems using remote sensing in both research and applied settings. The course also fosters high-level communication and analytical skills, enabling graduates to take on leading roles across academic, government and industrial sectors. This course is suited to students seeking to understand and apply remote sensing and mapping techniques in environmental monitoring and modelling. It will appeal to those with backgrounds in environmental or quantitative sciences (such as physics or engineering), as well as applied fields like geography, forestry, or environmental management.
