Master of Arts in Latin American Studies- Tropical Conservation and Development

The Tropical Conservation and Development (TCD) specialization provides opportunities and spaces for students to learn across disciplines and develop leadership skills critical to working in conservation and development. The specialization dovetails with the TCD Program, which serves to convene and support graduate students from diverse disciplines across campus and offers a graduate-level certificate at the University of Florida. By completing the TCD specialization, students are automatically eligible for the TCD Graduate Certificate, but they do need to apply.The Center for Latin American Studies offers the following graduate programs An interdisciplinary Master of Arts degree in Latin American Studies, A graduate certificate in Latin American studies, A graduate certificate and concentration in Tropical Conservation and Development. The graduate program in Latin American studies relies on over 250 courses with Latin American content taught in more than 35 academic units of the above colleges.The renowned richness of the MALAS program is sustained through dialogue among faculty and students with diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and identities. Students collaborate with 180 affiliate and core faculty members from the humanities, social and natural sciences, and professional schools to develop individual programs of study that integrate courses across the university. MALAS graduates are employed in educational and research institutions, international organizations, government agencies, and private businesses across the Americas; many continue studies in Ph.D. programs.

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours is required.
