Chemistry BA

UMass Boston’s Chemistry BA program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in chemistry and prepares them to understand the composition, structure, properties, and transformations of matter. The program combines classroom learning with laboratory experiences, mathematics, physics, and independent research, giving students an interdisciplinary understanding of chemistry and its applications. Students complete 80 credits across 23 courses as part of the major, including 46 credits of required chemistry courses, 20 credits of mathematics and physics courses, and a four-credit capstone requirement. The chemistry curriculum begins with Chemical Principles I and II and their corresponding laboratory courses, providing students with a strong foundation in essential chemical concepts and practical laboratory techniques. Students then progress into Organic Chemistry I and II with laboratory components, allowing them to explore the structure, properties, reactions, and synthesis of organic compounds. The program also includes Analytical Chemistry and Physical Chemistry, along with dedicated laboratory courses that help students develop practical skills in chemical analysis and experimental investigation. Additional coursework in Chemical Structure and Inorganic Chemistry introduces students to molecular structure, chemical bonding, inorganic compounds, and the principles governing chemical behavior.

Applicants must submit an official high school record, leaving certificate, and/or graduation examination results or their notarized copies.
