Certificate Program in Paralegal Studies (Online)

Position yourself for a successful legal career with UMass Lowell's 6-course paralegal certificate online. The Certificate in Paralegal Studies explores the role of paralegals in both the public and private sectors while learning a mix of legal theory and skills. Upon program completion, you will gain an understanding of legal concepts and vocabulary, the litigation process, the principles of jurisprudence and legal issues that influence modern business practices. Unlike many of the paralegal programs offered at other universities, the online certificate at UMass Lowell is credit-bearing, which means courses completed through our program may apply toward the online Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice: Paralegal option or the Bachelor of Liberal Arts: Legal Studies Concentration.

You are considered a first-year student if you have not taken any post-secondary/college coursework. Your application should include your high school or secondary school records, including results from culminating or leaving examinations.

Transcript - Your official school transcript (grades 9-11).

Essay - A personal essay of 250-650 words. Please write your full name on each essay page if submitting by mail.

Recommendation - A letter of recommendation from someone who is familiar with your abilities (a teacher, college counselor, coach, employer, etc.). If using the UMass Lowell web application, please feel free to download the recommendation form (pdf).
