Master of Science in Pharmacology

The Pharmacology MS degree program is designed to be flexible to serve diverse career objectives. Examples of successful students who have chosen our MS degree program include recent college graduates who desire to enter the pharmaceutical industry or government agencies like the FDA, or individuals currently in industry careers who would like to increase their opportunities for advancement. Our program is also appropriate for students who wish to improve their academic credentials prior to applying to medical, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, or PhD programs.The 1-year MS degree program involves a mixture of coursework and independent research. The program is designed to provide an environment that promotes growth in content knowledge related to pharmacology as well as in translatable skills for future careers, including critical analysis of the scientific literature and scientific communication. Student expertise will be honed through participation in coursework and group projects, culminating in a written thesis and an oral presentation. The MS degree coursework is the same as that taken by first-year Pharmacology PhD students. The research component can be satisfied by an independent laboratory research project or an in-depth literature survey of a topic of current pharmacological significance.
